There's something truly special about the bond with your first dog as an adult. Florence was the fearless little puppy who turned us into a family when I moved out of my childhood home. She’s the reason I developed such a deep love for animals. If you’ve ever loved a pet, you know how heartbreaking it is to lose them. At just seven years old, Florence was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, and we had to say goodbye. I miss her every day.
One of my most cherished possessions is a portrait of Florence, done in soft pastels, which hangs on my wall. It was a gift from my parents shortly after we lost her. The portrait perfectly captures her sweetness and spark. It was this artwork, along with a Secret Santa gift exchange, that inspired me to create my first pet portrait. For the exchange, I painted my giftee’s dog, and I loved the process. It allowed me to give someone else the same meaningful gift that my parents gave me with Florence's portrait.
My goal in creating a portrait is to capture the love you share with your pet and the beauty of your bond in every stroke. I want to give you a lasting reminder of that connection to cherish always!
